About Us

The Amherst Project website is an effort to promote, fund, and communicate the vision and ministry of Chi Alpha Campus Ministries in the Amherst, MA area.

Shane and Treva Adams along with Dan Johnson pioneered this ministry in the Fall of 2006 at UMass Amherst.

Our Vision

Why wouldn’t our site be called the UMass Amherst Project? Quite simply, it’s because our vision is so much bigger than just UMass. As it stands, UMass is the largest campus in the area and is part of a consortium of 5 campuses with Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Smith College. They share 5,300 courses and serve over 28,000 students. Basically, these five campuses operate as one in the area of academics. What if there was a ministry center at the hub of what we call “The Pentagon?” From this hub, student leaders from the 5 colleges can come to get trained in starting their own groups.

We will specialize in;

  • Equipping students and churches to serve the five colleges and beyond.

  • Creating a central place of ministry and leadership training.

  • Help facilitate Christian communities of students.

  • Recruit and equip volunteers to either partner with or pioneer Christian community in the five college system.

  • Do works of social justice as Christ commanded.

Will you partner with us in seeing this vision spread? Currently we are building a base of operation at UMass. Also, keep us in your prayers, and let us know how you would like to partner with our vision.
